The Lowest-Rated Video Games of the Year 2025, Based on Metacritic

Everywhere you look, gamers are quick to share their rankings of the greatest titles of 2025. But what about the flops, the failures? Let's take a momentary detour to honor the most panned games of the year, as determined by review aggregator Metacritic. Are all of these games as disappointing as the reviews suggest? We shall see.

10. Welcome Tour for Switch 2

Aggregate Score: 54/100, Audience Score: 3.4/10

Initial reactions to this tech demo were shaped by its $9.99 price tag, with many voicing frustration it wasn't a complimentary title like competing console launches. Critical opinion was quite mixed, from harsh disappointment to somewhat forgiving appraisals that praised the polished software underneath the controversy. Regardless of the controversy, the title proved to be a surprisingly robust seller during its launch month.

9. Rennsport

Metascore: 53/100, User Score: 3.2/10

Presented as "more than a racing game," this vroom-vroom title from Competition Company and Teyon received pretty unanimous reviews. The consensus was that the game was lacking in nearly every way, particularly in a year featuring stellar racing experiences. For many, this disappointing sim was best left unplayed.

8. Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection

Aggregate Score: 53/100, Audience Score: 8.6/10

First things first: the confusing punctuation is a notable annoyance. This anthology of retro platforming games features a rude feline known for incessant hacky one-liners. Critics observed that these games haven't aged well in their time and haven't gotten better with age. The improbably high user score remains a baffling anomaly to the professional reviews.

7. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact

Aggregate Score: 53, Audience Score: 3.5

This *Hunter x Hunter* fighter encountered harsh criticism from both reviewers and fans. Issues included a limited fighter lineup and a minimal offering of content. User reviews was particularly harsh, with some voicing a wish that the title's flop would be a warning for similar releases.

6. Riders Vs Dogoos

Metascore: 51, Audience Score: 5.3

A part of the quirky Hyperdimension Neptunia series, this bike-riding title tasks players with rounding up slime-like creatures. Reviewers felt that its effort to channel a rolling-collection feel ultimately fell flat, coming across as more of a low-effort product than a worthy addition to the franchise. Its short length combined with a premium price was criticized.

5. Captain Blood

Aggregate Score: 50, User Score: 5.3

This title is a resurrected relic from the mid-2000s, seeing the light of day after a very long time in development hell. The team behind it consciously chose to keep the game as an original artifact of its time, accepting that today's audiences might dislike its dated design. As such, many reviews concluded that the tale of its development was more interesting than the game itself.

4. Salvation

Aggregate Score: 44, Audience Score: 2.4

This anime-art action game modeled after games like *Returnal* fell flat with critics. Frequent criticisms included uninspired foes, samey environments, and a snoozy narrative. A much-criticized system involving the character's attire was widely panned and detracted from the game's overall experience.

3. Ambulance Life

Aggregate Score: 44, Audience Score: 4.9

Imagine the engaging surgery games of the past, then strip away the memorable characters. That, according to reviews, is roughly *Ambulance Life*. Reviewers found the ambulance-driving sequences to be monotonous, and the treatment of its subject matter was criticized as being tone-deaf. The overall experience was deemed largely unsatisfying.

2. Tamagotchi Plaza

Aggregate Score: 43, Audience Score: 5.8

This shift away from the classic virtual pet formula transforms the franchise into a minigame collection title. The result, per critics, was a dull series of repetitive tasks that very soon became boring. Some reviews went so far as to declare it one of the most disappointing titles available on its platform, pointing to a complete absence of satisfying gameplay.

1. MindsEye

Metascore: 37, Audience Score: 2.5

Intended to be a major crime saga from a studio led by experienced developers, *MindsEye* was a catastrophic disappointment. Reviews heavily criticized its lousy combat, uninspired storytelling, and a host of horrendous bugs. Several found it to be a regression compared to much older games in the action genre. Despite the sea of negativity, a small handful of optimistic players found something to enjoy in the experience, offering a lonely vote of confidence.
